Born and raised in Denver, Colorado, Tom owns the Cranky Bird Studio.

He’s been at it professionally for 30 years, and has work in a variety of collections, publications, and galleries. His artwork ranges from character design and children’s books, to album covers and privately commissioned work. It has been featured in the illustration annual Infected by Art, Volumes 3 and 4.

Formerly a co-owner of the Littleton gallery, Sketchbook!, Tom’s gallery pieces are available in Denver at Helikon Gallery and Studios and in Historic Downtown Littleton at Willow: An Artisan’s Market. He is a member of the Denver Illustration Salon.

Tom is passionate about nearly all art, but most particularly the creative, illustrative type.

He works in a variety of media, and his subject matter is fed by his interests, including Victorian Literature, 19th century and medieval subjects, history, the sciences, hand-drawn animated film, and almost all types of music.

He’s also dedicated to sharing knowledge, and provides presentations on illustration techniques as well as private art instruction and workshops for students ages 16 to adult. He is an instructor at the annual Art Makers Denver, and teaches workshops at Foothills Art Center in Golden, Colorado.
