john van horn solo show
Gallery 101 | April 20 – June 1, 2019
Helikon is pleased to present a solo show of works by studio artist John Van Horn. John often presents melancholic imagery in contrast with a deliberate sense of humorous absurdity, poking fun at sorrow, adversity, and misfortune as a form of catharsis. In some cases, the work is purely visual experimentation, drawing influence from John’s interest in science fiction, comic books, and film.
Main Gallery | June 7 – July 3, 2019
‘Dream Logic’ is the concept that the bizarre content of a dream makes some kind of sense while the dreamer is in the vision, but often breaks down once the dreamer awakens. It can be difficult to explain an experience in a dream because words often fail to encapsulate the feelings and thoughts that seemed clear at the time. The clarity blurs into obscurity, while the images are fleeting and eventually forgotten. Artist list TBA.
HEADLINER: A Poster show

In conjunction with our Summer Music Series,Helikon presents a show of gig posters by local and national artists. Highlighting the thriving and often overlapping visual art and music scenes in Denver, concert posters serve as mementos of a specific experience as well as stand-alone art pieces.
outside-in: Mural artists in the gallery

Outside-In will take place during CRUSH, Denver’s week-long mural festival during which nearly 100 murals are completed by local and nationally-acclaimed artists. Helikon will present a selection of work by mural artists inside the gallery, allowing visitors to take a piece of some of their favorite artists’ work home to their own collections.
